Furniture Wrapping Cambridge
Wardrobes, fitted furniture, desks and cabinets transformed using professional architectural film. Often called furniture vinyl wrapping or wardrobe wrapping, the process gives any piece a completely new surface. The structure stays. The look changes completely. Done in place, no removal required. 10-year warranty on every install.
What is furniture wrapping?
Most furniture is structurally sound for decades. The hinges work, the drawers slide, the frame is solid. What changes is the finish. By the time it looks dated the cost of replacing the whole piece seems out of proportion to the problem.
Architectural film wrapping changes the finish completely while leaving the structure in place. A wardrobe wrapped in brushed oak film looks like it was built from brushed oak. You would have to know what to look for to tell the difference.
The process starts with a thorough clean and prime of every surface. Film is cut to size and applied with specialist tools to remove air and ensure full adhesion. Every edge is wrapped onto the rear of the surface rather than trimmed flush, which is what makes it last.
For fitted furniture in particular, wrapping makes more sense than replacement because the pieces cannot be easily removed without damaging the room. Fitted wardrobes and alcove units are perfect candidates. The work is done in place, usually in a single day, and the room is back to normal the same evening.
Everything installed by Velfi Interiors carries a 10-year warranty. The films carry manufacturer warranties of 10 to 12 years.
Our work
Can it be done?
Yes, and it is one of the most useful things architectural film does. Wardrobes, desks, chests of drawers, bedside units, shelving, reception desks and tables can all be wrapped in a new colour or finish, on the furniture you already own. The structure stays, the surface changes.
The honest part is that it depends on the surface underneath. Smooth, sound surfaces take film beautifully. Damaged or very textured ones need assessing first.
| Surface | Can it be wrapped? |
|---|---|
| Laminate or melamine (most flat-pack furniture) | Yes, this is the ideal surface |
| MDF or painted MDF | Yes, once primed or if the paint is sound |
| Veneer | Yes if sound and smooth. Lifting or peeling veneer needs repair first. |
| Solid wood, sealed | Yes |
| Raw, unsealed timber | Needs a primer or sealer first |
| Metal frames and legs | Yes, cleaned and keyed |
| Heavily carved or very ornate pieces | Usually not. Send a photo for an honest answer. |
| Mirrored doors | Yes. A good way to lose a dated mirrored wardrobe. |
Yes. IKEA and most flat-pack furniture is laminate or melamine, which is the surface film likes best. Wardrobes such as the PAX range, drawer units and shelving can all be given a completely different look. Wrapping is also a way to rescue furniture you would otherwise throw away.
Wardrobes
Wardrobe wrapping is the job people ask about most. The job depends on the number and size of doors, plus any carcass, drawers or interior you want included, and the wardrobe is back in use the same day. Films vary so much that we do not give a price before we have suited the film to your goals and budget. Send a photo and the number of doors, and a fixed quote comes back within 24 hours.
People searching for wardrobe wrapping before and after photos are checking one thing: does it actually look good? Our gallery shows real wardrobe jobs, including a white wood-effect wardrobe wrap and a Cover Styl finish, so you can judge for yourself.
| Wrapping | Painting or spraying | Replacing | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Finish | Consistent, factory-like | Brush or spray marks, depends on skill | Brand new |
| Mess | None | Fumes, drying time, dust | Delivery, fitting, disposal |
| Time | Usually same day | Days between coats | Weeks for lead times |
| Reversible | Yes | No | No |
| Waste | None | Little | Old furniture to landfill |
Wrapping wins on time, mess and reversibility. Replacing makes sense only when the furniture is structurally damaged. Painting suits small, low-use pieces.
Durability
With professional installation, ten years or more, backed by a written warranty. The edges that get the most handling, such as the front edge of a desk or the top of a drawer front, are the parts that show wear first, which is why film is wrapped onto the back of every edge rather than trimmed flush.
Care is simple. Wipe with a soft cloth and mild cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads and solvent-based products, which can mark any film. For desks and office furniture, see office refurbishment for how wrapping works across a whole floor.

Wardrobes, desks and cabinets most often go for a genuine wood effect. A solid matte colour works well for a more contemporary piece.
